I am into wk 11 of txt.I was virus not detected at wk 4.But no GP or specialist ever warned me that until you are UND it is necessary to sterilise toothbrushes, piksters, razors, etc. especially if you have a tendency towards bleeding gums, otherwise the slim possibly exists that you could be constantly reinfecting yourself. Now I know , it is a blindingly obvious precaution, but not many seem to be aware of it,and it gets no publicity,.I wonder if some txt failures could be put down to this seemingly simple precaution. Recommended sterisation methods appear to be a 1:10 solution of 5% of household bleach(Sodium hypochlorite) or something such as Miltons solution.Alcohol is not recommended.and sodium hypochlorite can be carcinogenic if not washed off. I would be interested to hear if others were made aware of this and what methods they have used.

Mike, I wasn't aware of it until it was mentioned on the fixhepc site 6 - 8?? weeks ago. It wasn't much of a topic on fixhepc so not sure if many people consider it an issue or not. I have been using disposable razors and toothbrushes, quite cheap and foolproof. I considered bleach, etc, but figure the cost is reasonable for disposable and there is no hassle with sterilization, etc. With disposable goods there is absolutely no possibility of re-infection. I will get my 8 week result tomorrow so will stop using disposable goods if I am undetected. My doctor made no mention of it either. Gary

It's a good point Mike, and one that I expect often gets overlooked. As Gary mentioned, it was discussed a few weeks ago on fixhepc. If I remember correctly, Doc Freeman opined that, as you are on DAAs, any HCV virus is going to get killed off anyway. I, as Gary, use disposable razors. I changed that, and all my dental hygene appliances the day of my two week VL test (again as Gary has stated, toothbrushes are as cheap as chips. Not worth sterilising old ones imho). If my VL result had come back positive, I would've changed the stuff every few days. As it was, I was UND. Which reminds me: My tothbrush is overdue it's three month renewal!

folks, this is a bit off topic but just got back from the doctors and I am undetected and liver functions are all normal!! I waited until 8 weeks of tx were finished as I am paying all of the costs myself so figured that according to Dr Freeman's info basically 100% of people were undetected after 8 weeks I would wait till then. Anyhow, I think a little celebration is in order - may have 1 glass of champagne on New Year's Eve, then back to dry until the end of tx.
